In August 2026, we served Quas straight from the tap at Sauna Theatre during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. We sold more kvass than any other drink there. For me, that was a particularly encouraging moment in the work we have been doing with Britain’s sauna community.
I want a cold Quas after the sauna to feel like an obvious choice. Malt, a little tang, a dry finish and time to enjoy it. At Sauna Theatre, we could put that idea into a glass and let people discover it for themselves.
Sauna, performance and a cold pour
The Sauna Theatre programme brought sauna and performance together at the Fringe. Quas was there for the August event, poured from the tap in the city where we brew it.
There is something satisfying about offering kvass this way. Its dark, cloudy colour and fine foam are visible from the start. Then comes the flavour: grain, fermentation and a clean sourness. You can get to know the drink before you know its history.
That first encounter matters to me. Quas has enough character to surprise someone who expects a familiar sweet drink. I want to give it a setting where there is time for the second sip, the conversation and the decision to have it again.
The story before August
I attended the Sauna Summit in London in 2025. In 2026, Quas sponsored Sauna Summit in Brighton. Those gatherings put us alongside the people building the UK’s sauna culture, from the venues themselves to the wider community around them.
Alongside those events, there are the ongoing relationships with sauna operators. Banya No.1 Chiswick has poured Quas on tap since March 2024. Today, our sauna stockists stretch from Scotland to the Isles of Scilly.
Each venue gives Quas a different setting. What connects them is the chance to make the drink a familiar part of coming together after the heat.
A ritual with a winter chapter
There is a lovely winter scene in Belarusian writer Stsiapan Kukharau’s Batskavichy, published in a 1991 collection. After the village bath, people drink kvass and spend time talking. Summer conversations carry on outside; in winter, people gather beside the stove.
That is an appealing picture for a drink brewed in Scotland. The occasion carries through the colder months: heat, a place to sit, a cold drink and good company. The weather changes, but there is still pleasure in taking a little time together.
We have brought more of these stories together in our history of kvass and sauna. They give us something real to build on as we find Quas’s place in Britain’s growing sauna culture.
What I want to build next
My ambition is for the pairing to become familiar through experience. People try Quas at a sauna, remember the flavour and look forward to it next time. Operators have a distinctive drink they enjoy serving. The story travels because the occasion makes sense.
Quas is a non-alcoholic sourdough fermented drink, with natural trace alcohol from fermentation. We serve it fridge-cold and straight, without ice. It is made with rye and barley and contains gluten.
Sauna Theatre was one chapter. To find your next pour, explore the sauna stockist map, or read our guide to what to drink after sauna. If you would like Quas at your own venue, tell us about your sauna. I would love to see where the next chapter takes us.
